Karaoke for a Cause was hosted by the Honors Student Advisory Council on October
29th, and successfully fundraised $40 for Polar Bears International,
the world’s leading Polar Bear Conservation Organization! To find out more
about PBI and their various research, education, and conservation efforts
please visit: www.polarbearsinternational.org
. The event also raised awareness about the plight of the Ursus maritimus
in the face of a rapidly changing climate.
Hosted at the Wood Center Multi-Level Lounge, the Karaoke
for a Cause event was open to the entire student body. Eight participants signed
up for the karaoke contest (whose slogan was “Sing a Song, Save a Nanook”) and
won exciting prizes such as eco-friendly sporks donated by the UAF Office of
Sustainability. Another 40 students were in attendance at the event, when a
surprising guest speaker made an appearance: The Nanook Mascot!
Overall, it was an exciting and educational evening. The
HSAC plans to make this an annual event. Thanks to everyone who came and showed
their support!
